Facebook censorship?

So, this isn't so much a post as it is an experiment. Earlier today, someone posted a photo on facebook showing throngs of people descending on Wall Street for the Occupy Wall Street protest. The original poster claimed that the photo had been repeatedly removed from her wall. Many people reposted the photo, myself included.

Sure enough, later today, the photo was gone. It was gone from my account and the friends of mine that had reposted it. There was no indication that it ever existed. Hmmm.

Obviously this affected a number of people, and yet there's no mention of it when searching in google, which I find hard to believe.

In order to confirm our theory, I reposted a simple photo from my friend (of her porch couch) and she then deleted it from her account. Sure enough, the photo is still on my wall.

Therefore, here's my experiment. I'm writing this up. I'm saying that there is the very real possibility that facebook is censoring information without the consent of its users. There is also the (slightly paranoid) assertion that google is complicit in ensuring this information does not get out to a larger audience. Sounds crazy, right? I agree. That's the reason for this post. I wonder if this will show up in a google search? I wonder if this will be removed from my facebook when I post the link?

There's only one way to find out.
